From time to time, people tell me, "lighten up, it's just a dog," or, "that's a lot of money for just a dog." They don't understand the distance traveled, the time spent, or the costs involved for "just a dog."
Some of my proudest moments have come about with "just a dog." Many hours have passed and my only company was "just a dog," but I did not once feel slighted.
Some of my saddest moments have been brought about by "just a dog," and in those days of darkness, the gentle touch of "just a dog" gave me comfort and reason to overcome the day.
If you, too, think it's "just a dog," then you will probably understand phases like "just a friend," "just a sunrise," or "just a promise." "Just a dog" brings into my life the very essence of friendship, trust, and pure unbridled joy. "Just a dog" brings out the compassion and patience that make me a better person.
Because of "just a dog" I will rise early, take long walks and look longingly to the future. So for me and folks like me, it's not "just a dog" but an embodiment of all the hopes and dreams of the future, the fond memories of the past, and the pure joy of the moment.
"Just a dog" brings out what's good in me and diverts my thoughts away from myself and the worries of the day.
I hope that someday they can understand that it's not "just a dog" but the thing that gives me humanity and keeps me from being "just a human."
So the next time you hear the phrase "just a dog." just smile, because they "just don't understand."

Why Neuter your animals?
By making sure that your pet can't have puppies or kittens, you'll have peace of mind that his or her offspring won't be euthanized in an animal shelter.
Many people are surprised to learn that nationwide more than 3 million cats and dogs are euthanized in shelters. You might think that these are animals born in the streets or there is something "wrong" with them. But often they are the offspring of cherished family pets, even purebreds.
Maybe someone's dog or cat got out just that one time or maybe the litter was intentional, but efforts to find enough good homes failed.
Still the result is homeless animals that have to be euthanized because there are more dogs and cats entering shelters than there are people willing to provide them with loving care. Even if you do find homes for your pet's puppies or kittens, that means there are fewer homes available to take in other pets from shelters. Spay/neuter is the only permanent, 100-percent effective method of birth control for dogs and cats.
Help your community … and yourself:
Homeless animals may get into bins and bite or attack. Spaying or neutering your pet means that your animal and its potential offspring won't contribute to the population of unwanted pets.
You can also enjoy your spayed or neutered pet more.
Female pets that have been spayed do not go into heat. You won't have the mess that comes with the female reproductive cycle or the boisterous, noisy male suitors. Spaying and neutering may also reduce the risk of certain health problems, offering you more years with your beloved dog or cat.
Safe and effective:
Licensed veterinarians perform the spay or neuter operation while the pet is under anesthesia. Depending on your pet's age, size and health, he or she will stay at your veterinarian's office for a few hours or a few days. Depending upon the procedure, your pet may need stitches removed. Your veterinarian can fully explain spay and neuter procedures to you. If you have a new puppy or kitten, don't wait! Pets can become parents sooner than you think. Early age spay/neuter is safe and effective, so talk with your veterinarian at your pet's first visit!!
NEUTER YOUR PETS!!! BE RESPONSIBLE!

Prayer of a Stray
“Dear God please send me somebody who´ ll care!
I´ m tired of running, I´ m sick with despair.
My body is aching, it´ s so racked with pain
And dear God I pray as I run in the rain,
That someone will love me and give me a home.
A warm, cozy bed I can call my own.
My last owner neglected me and chased me away
To rummage in garbage and live as a stray.
But now God I´ m tired and hungry and cold
And I´ m afraid that I’ll never grow old.
They’ve chased me with sticks and hit me with stones
While I run in the streets just looking for bones!
I´ m not really bad God, please help if you can
For I have become just a “VICTIM OF MAN!”
I´ m wormy dear God and I´ m ridden with fleas
And all that I want is an owner to please!
If you find one for me God, I’ll try to be good
I won´ t runaway and I’ll do as I should.
I don´ t think I’ll make it too long on my own
Cause I´ m getting so weak and I´ m so alone.
Each night as I sleep in the bushes I cry,
And I've got so afraid I'm going to die!
And I've got so much love and devotion to give
That I should be given a new chance to live.
So dear God PLEASE, PLEASE ANSWER my prayer
And send me somebody who WILL REALLY CARE.”

Goldie and Blackie
Goldie and Blackie were dumped outside Gail's house last summer. They are mother and son and they have a very special bond between them. Gail already has three dogs so she couldn't keep them, but she arranged for them to be neutered and found a foster home for them.
Yesterday Gail got a call to say that they can no longer stay with their fosterer and so Gail is urgently looking for a new home for them.
As you can see from the photos, Goldie and Blackie are very comfortable around other dogs; both dogs are good natured and very healthy, although their vaccinations may not be up to date.
Although it would be nice if they could stay together, the most important thing is to find a loving home where they can happy. Please contact Gail on 913 040 808 or email gailserra@moneymais.com if you could offer Goldie or Blackie and home please call gail on

RULES for Dogs and Cats
The following was found posted very low on a refrigerator door.
Dear Dogs and Cats: The dishes with the paw prints are yours and contain your food. The other dishes are mine and contain my food. Placing a paw print in the middle of my plate and food does not stake a claim for it becoming your food and dish, nor do I find that aesthetically pleasing in the slightest.
The stairway was not designed by NASCAR and is not a racetrack. Racing me to the bottom is not the object. Tripping me doesn't help because I fall faster than you can run.
I cannot buy anything bigger than a king sized bed. I am very sorry about this. Do not think I will continue sleeping on the couch to ensure your comfort, however. Dogs and cats can actually curl up in a ball when they sleep. It is not necessary to sleep perpendicular to each other, stretched out to the fullest extent possible. I also know that sticking tails straight out and having tongues hanging out on the other end to maximize space is nothing but sarcasm.
For the last time, there is no secret exit from the bathroom! If, by some miracle, I beat you there and manage to get the door shut, it is not necessary to claw, whine, meow, try to turn the knob or get your paw under the edge in an attempt to open the door. I must exit through the same door I entered. Also, I have been using the bathroom for years - canine/feline attendance is not required.
The proper order for kissing is: Kiss me first, then go smell the other dog or cat's butt. I cannot stress this enough.
Finally, in fairness, dear pets, I have posted the following message on the front door:
TO ALL NON-PET OWNERS WHO VISIT AND LIKE TO COMPLAIN ABOUT OUR PETS: (1) They live here. You don't. (2) If you don't want their hair on your clothes, stay off the furniture. That's why they call it 'fur'-niture. (3) I like my pets a lot better than I like most people. (4) To you, they are animals. To me, they are adopted sons/daughters who are short, hairy, walk on all fours and don't speak clearly.
Remember, dogs and cats are better than kids because they (1) eat less, (2) don't ask for money all the time, (3) are easier to train, (4) normally come when called, (5) never ask to drive the car, (6) don't hang out with drug-using people; (7) don't smoke or drink, (8) don't want to wear your clothes, (9) don't have to buy the latest fashions, (10) don't need a gazillion dollars for college and (11) if they get pregnant, you can sell their children .

Rupert!! - RE HOMED
Meet Rupert!!
Everywhere he goes, people say what a lovely dog Rupert is because of his warm, sociable nature and silly smile. He gets on well with other dogs and cats and is especially gentle with children. He wouldn’t tear the leg off a potential burglar, but he would sound the alarm with his big dog bark.
20-25 kilos, 18 months old, vaccinated, neutered and in excellent health. Tel: 282332621 or email sallylyons@mail.telepac.pt

Beautiful little girl - RE HOMED!!
Hi everyone,
I am a lovely little female puppy who was abandoned at the side of the road with my 2 brothers. Luckily I was found quickly so I am in excellent health and thriving in my foster home. My 2 brothers have found homes very quickly and I desperately need one as soon as possible as my foster parents have too many kids already!
They think I am a cross between a German Shepherd and a husky but my paws aren’t big so I think I will be a medium sized dog. I love other dogs and am used to cats as I currently live with 2 big ones.
I love hugs and kisses and will be your best friend if you or one of your friends can give me a home.
Thank you
From a puppy who doesn’t want to go to the dogs home!!
